Dordt defeats Trinity Bible College 63-13.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Dordt scored six straight touchdowns and was forced to punt once in winning a non-conference game in Sioux Center.

The Defenders took the first drive of the game and marched 82 yards on six plays to take a 7-0 lead with Xavier Caffee taking it in from one yard out to hit paydirt.  Caffee also had a 33 yard run on the play and Loken Vande Vegte a 37 yard gain to get Dordt to the doorstep. 

Trinity Bible answered with a 12 play, 77 yard drive that took 4:58 off the clock and got the Lions within one when the point after failed.

Dordt wasted no time in taking control with an 84 yard pass from Taylan Seaman to Xavier Caffee on the second play from scrimmage to cap a 91 yard drive with 6:23 remaining and less than three minutes later Caffee scored on a 59 yard run to finish an 89 yard drive with 3:53 remaining in the quarter.

Dordt tacked on a pair of scores in the fourth quarter with Kenneth Lewis running 53 yards around the edge for a score and Caffee scored for the third time on a 25 yard pass from Reggie Washington to finish a 61 yard drive.

A Bryce Lidtka 45 yard touchdown run up the middle started the scoring with 12:27 left in the third quarter and Danial White had a four yard run to finish a ten play 66 yard drive that spanned the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth. 

Trinity finally stopped the Dordt scoring spree with a 58 yard touchdown pass but Dordt answered with a White to Ben Hayes 45 yard pass with 8:58 remaining and a Tanner Conover run with 2:45 left in the fourth made the final 63-13.

 

NOTES

-Dordt ran for 483 yards on 50 attempts while Trinity had 49 yards on 27 attempts.

-Trinity passed for 234 yards while Dordt passed for 154 yards.

-Dordt had 637 yards of total offense and Trinity had 234.

-Dordt converted 5-9 third down tries and Trinity was 6-20 on third down and 2-5 on fourth down.

-Xavier Caffee had 143 yards on six carries and Lydtka had 71 on six carries.  Lewis ran for 65 yards on three carries and Loken Vande Vegte had four carries for 48 yards while Mitchell Sandbulte had a team high 12 carries and 45 yards.

-Taylan Seaman, Danial White and Reggie Washington all were 1-1 passing and all three passes were for touchdowns.

-Caffee caught two passes for 109 yards. 

-Daniel Brown led Dordt in tackles with six and Colten Smolders had five. 

-Matt Albert and Keith Johnson both had two sacks.

-Dordt established a new single game scoring record, breaking old record of 56 set last season against Trinity Bible.

-Dordt established new single game rushing record, breaking old record of 441 set against Dakota State in 2012.

-632 total yards of offense is second to 691 gained against Dakota State in 2012.

-Caffee sets all-purpose yard record with 264.

-ties school record held by Daniel Fennig of four touchdowns in a game.

-ties school record held by Josh Van Kempen with two receiving touchdowns in a game.

-Jake Brouwer establishes new record by making 9-9 point after attempts.

-The Seaman to Caffee 84 yard touchdown pass is the longest pass play from scrimmage, breaking the previous mark of 82.

“It was a good team effort.  Everyone participated and we had a lot of contributions from different people,” said Dordt coach Greg Youngblood.
