<p>A pair of fifth place finishes by Dordt’s Nicole Slater and Mycah Hulst highlighted day three of the NAIA Track and Field Championships on Saturday, March 7.
</p><p>
Slater improved on her mile prelim time of 5:03.59 to run a 5:00.10 and earn fifth place. Mycah Hulst matched that fifth place finish as she cleared 5-6 in the high jump. Hulst was tied with four other competitors for fifth place and earned fifth place points for the Defenders by virtue of misses.
</p><p>Three other individuals finished eighth in their heats (Sam Wensink, Justine Van Zee and Lauren Opp) to claim All-American honors. Wensink ran 1:55.40 in the 800; Van Zee ran a 2:57.39 in the 1,000 and Opp ran a 17:43.32 in the 5,000.
</p><p>
The distance medley relay team of Erika Douma, Miranda Velgersdyk, Kayla Byl and Nicole Slater ran a 12:36.27 to cap the day and event with an eighth place finish.

Women’s 5,000 Prelim (Lauren Opp) ran 17:57.19. Qualifies for finals with 10th fastest time. Fastest time in prelims was 17:37.24

Women’s 4 x 800 Semifinal (Kelsey Lewis, Kayla Byl, Lillie Koerner, Justine Van Zee) ran 9:08.66. Qualifies for finals with fastest time in prelims.

Men’s 4 x 800 Semifinal (Sam Wensink, Stephan McNamara, Nick Vander Kooi, Trent Kischer) ran 7:45.69. Qualifies for finals with 7th fastest time in prelims. Fastest time was 7:40.85 by Oklahoma Baptist.</p>
<p>Women’s Distance Medley Relay (Erika Douma, Miranda Velgersdyk, Kayla Byl, Nicole Slater) ran 11:55.62. Qualifies for the finals with 3rd fastest time in prelims. Fastest time was 11:52.42 by Carroll.</p>

Friday, March 6</p>
<p>Women’s Mile Prelim (Nicole Slater) ran 5:03.59. Qualifies for finals with 7th fastest time. Fastest time in prelims was 4:58.51</p>
<p>Women’s 400 Meter Prelim (Miranda Velgersdyk) ran :58.60. Does not qualify for finals. Needed to beat :57.54 for berth in finals.</p>
<p>Women’s 800 Meter Semifinal (Kelsey Lewis) ran 2:16.54. Does not qualify for finals. Needed to beat 2:14.75 for berth in finals.</p>
<p>Men’s 800 Meter Semifinal (Sam Wensink) ran 1:53.80. Qualifies for finals with 3rd fastest time. Top time out of prelims was 1:53.30.</p>
<p>Women’s 1,000 Meter Semifinal (Lillie Koerner, Justine Van Zee) Koerner ran 2:59.71 and does not qualify for finals. Van Zee ran 2:56.74 which was 7th fastest out of prelims and qualifies for finals on Saturday at 1:45.</p>
<p>Women’s 4 x 800 Meter Relay Final (Kelsey Lewis, Kayla Byl, Lillie Koerner, Justine Van Zee) ran a 9:12.46 for 3rd place overall. Oklahoma Baptist won event with a 9:02.28.</p>
<p>Men’s 4 x 800 Meter Relay Final (Sam Wensink, Stephan McNamara, Nick Vander Kooi, Trent Kischer) ran a 7:49.10 for 8th overall. Oklahoma Baptist won the event with a 7:33.97.</p>
<p>Saturday, March 7</p>
<p>Women’s Mile Final (Nicole Slater) ran a 5:00.10. Finished 5th and earned All-American status. Winning time was 4:37.26. Slater’s time was over three seconds faster than her prelim time.</p>
<p>Women’s High Jump (Mycah Hulst) cleared 5-6 and placed 5th. Winning jump was 5-8.5. Hulst earns All-American status.</p>
<p>Men’s 800 Final (Sam Wensink) ran a 1:55.40 and placed 8th. Winning time was 1:52.07. Wensink earns All-American status.</p>
<p>Women’s 1,000 Final (Justine Van Zee) ran a 2:57.39 and placed 8th. Winning time was 2:52.04. Van Zee earns All-American status.</p>
<p>Women’s 5,000 Final (Lauren Opp) ran a 17:43.32 and placed 8th. Winning time was 17:17.11. Opp earns All-American status.</p>
<p>Women’s Distance Medley Relay (Erika Douma, Miranda Velgersdyk, Kayla Byl, Nicole Slater) ran a 12:36.27 and finished 8th. Winning time was 11:49.51. Foursome earns All-American status.</p>
