The Dordt College Defender women’s cross country team had a tight pack of runners in the Mount Marty Invite on Saturday, October 25 and won the meet easily with a low score of 23 in the final competition before the GPAC Championships on Saturday, November 8.

Kayla Byl ran an 18:13 on the 5,000 meter course to take the individual title. Dordt’s next four runners were all within 11 seconds as they swept spots 4-7. Lauren Opp had an 18:35 for fourth and Nicole Slater had an 18:45. Justine Van Zee and Abby De Vries were within a second of each other at 18:46 for sixth and seventh. Lillie Koerner and Erika Douma came across in 19:08 and 19:17 respectively for 16th and 20th in the 192 runner field.

Nebraska-Omaha had 90 points for second place in the 17 team field and South Dakota State was third with 113.

Dordt will run at the GPAC Championships in two weeks at Mitchell, South Dakota. Dordt was no. 2 in the most recent NAIA Coaches’ Poll released weekly on Wednesday.
