The Dordt College women’s cross country team defended its team title at the NAIA National Preview Meet held at Rim Rock Farm near Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday, October 11. The Defenders took the team title by a slim three point margin over Taylor. Oklahoma Baptist wasn’t far behind with 121 points for third place. Dordt’s 112 won it and Taylor had a score of 115.

Kayla Byl paced the Defenders with a 14th place time of 18:57 and Nicole Slater ran a 19:11 for 21st place. Abby De Vries and Lauren Opp were 24th and 25th and finished within a second of each other in 19:15 and Justine Van Zee clocked a 19:19 for 28th place.

Dordt’s first through seventh runners ran in a tight pack as Lillie Koerner and Erika Douma were 34th and 44th overall with times of 19:24 and 19:32.

312 women ran in the race and Hanna Fields from Oklahoma Baptist won the event with a time of 17:46.

Eight of the 32 teams were ranked in the top-25 poll last week.

Dordt will be off until October 25 when the Defenders conclude the regular season at the Mount Marty Invite.
