<p>The Dordt College Defender women’s cross country team won the Dakota Wesleyan Invitational in dominating fashion on Saturday morning, September 20 run at Wild Oak Golf Club. Dordt totaled a low of 19 points, missing out on a perfect score by one place as they took 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th for their scored spots.</p>
Kayla Byl on the 5,000 meter race by outdueling Hastings’s Lauren Shoemaker. Byl ran the course in a time of 18:27. Nicole Slater finished third in 18:47 and Lauren Opp was right behind in 18:48. Abby De Vries ran an 18:52 and Lillie Koerner an 18:52 for Dordt’s top five runners. Justine Van Zee was the sixth runner across for Dordt with a time of 19:02 and Erika Douma was the final pusher for Dordt with a time of 19:19 which placed her eleventh. </p>
<p>Dordt had the low score of the five team field with 19 while Hastings posted a 69. 54 runners competed in the event. </p>
<p>Dordt’s next event will be Saturday, September 27 when the Defenders run at the Roy Griak Invite in St. Paul Minnesota.</p>
