Dakota Wesleyan Invite
The Dordt College Defender women’s cross country team won the Dakota Wesleyan Invitational in dominating fashion on Saturday morning, September 20 run at Wild Oak Golf Club. Dordt totaled a low of 19 points, missing out on a perfect score by one place as they took 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th for their scored spots.
Kayla Byl on the 5,000 meter race by outdueling Hastings’s Lauren Shoemaker. Byl ran the course in a time of 18:27. Nicole Slater finished third in 18:47 and Lauren Opp was right behind in 18:48. Abby De Vries ran an 18:52 and Lillie Koerner an 18:52 for Dordt’s top five runners. Justine Van Zee was the sixth runner across for Dordt with a time of 19:02 and Erika Douma was the final pusher for Dordt with a time of 19:19 which placed her eleventh.
Dordt had the low score of the five team field with 19 while Hastings posted a 69. 54 runners competed in the event.
Dordt’s next event will be Saturday, September 27 when the Defenders run at the Roy Griak Invite in St. Paul Minnesota.
