Roy Griak Invite
The Dordt College women’s cross country team placed seventh at the Roy Griak Invite Maroon II race on Saturday, September 27 in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Defenders were the top NAIA finisher in the 33 team field with 227 points.
Dordt was paced by Kayla Byl with a time of 23:23 for 19th place on the 6,000 meter race. Nicole Slater and Lauren Opp were 41st and 51st with times of 23:54 and 24:10. Justine Van Zee wasn’t far behind with a time of 24:16 for 57th and Lillie Koerner was right on Van Zee’s heels with a time of 24:18 which was good for 59th place. Abby De Vries and Erika Douma paced out times of 24:47 and 24:53 respectively to conclude Dordt’s top seven for 77th and 87th respectively
Byl was the first NAIA runner across the finish line. Minnesota Duluth won the event with 74 points and Augustana (South Dakota) had a 97. Minnesota Duluth’s Samantha Rivard had the fastest time in the 325 runner field with a 22:02, winning the event by over 11 seconds.
Dordt will next run at the NAIA Preview Meet on October 11 in Lawrence, Kansas.
