The Dordt College volleyball team improved to 5-2 in the GPAC with a 3-0 win over Mount Marty in Yankton, South Dakota on Wednesday night, October 1. <p>
Dordt dominated set one with a 25-17 win behind an 18 kill attack and a .333 kill efficiency. Jenna Horstman had six kills in the set and Elizabeth Kiel five as the Defenders were in system for much of the set.<p>
The hosts recovered to start fast in set two, taking a 10-3 lead at one point and forcing Dordt to use a timeout. A Brooke Wolterstorff kill got the Defenders service and Summer Jansen proceeded to serve the next seven points as Horstman and Wolterstorff each had three kills in the run. The score was tied at 11-11 and 13-13 before a five point run with Kayla Bartman serving got the Defenders in control and they went on to win 25-18.<p>Set three was very similar with Dordt trailing 13-7. This time it was Becci Madden doing the honors in the service area as the Defenders reeled off seven straight with Haley Moss getting multiple kills in the run. Dordt built a 21-16 lead and appeared to be on the way to a relatively easy win before Mount Marty came back to within 21-20, forcing Dordt to use a timeout. <p>
A Mount Marty service error gave the Defenders a two point lead and the Defenders scored three of the next four points for the 25-22 win, getting the final point on a Moss kill.<p>
Jenna Horstman had 15 kills and Wolterstorff 13 while Moss added 11 on just 17 attacks. Kayla Bartman got credit for 39 assists and had two service aces with nine digs. Wolterstorff led Dordt with 13 digs and Summer Jansen had 11. <p>
Dordt is now 11-7 overall and 5-2 in the league and will face Doane on Friday night at Crete, Nebraska.<p>
Mount Marty is 7-11 and 0-5 in the GPAC.
