Non-conference Match

Dordt's womens basketball team won in dominating fashion on Saturday in a non-conference matchup with Grace College, running away from the visiting Royals, 96-31. The win improves Dordt's overall season record to 10-16.

It didn't take long for the Lady Defenders to set the tone, as Kim Kroeze drove into the lane for two points on Dordt's first possession, Cassidy Vredevoogd blocked a shot on the defensive end and eventually kicked hit ahead to Abby Chapman who knocked down a three-pointer to give Dordt a 5-0 lead just a minute in. Grace answered on a Diane Ouedraogo bucket inside, but then saw Dordt rattle off eleven straight, capped off when Paige Engbers connected from downtown to give the Defenders a 16-2 advantage at the 13:03 mark of the first half.

Capitalizing off of seven first half steals, 11 of 15 from the charity stripe, and 47% shooting, Dordt entered halftime with a 41-9 lead.

Grace was able to knock down ten field goals in the second half including a pair of threes for their 22 points in the half, but the Defenders remained red-hot from the field, converting 21 of 35 attempts including 7 of 13 from three-point range.

Dordt out-rebounded the Royals 52-23, including 17 on the offensive glass. The Lady Defenders shot a scorching 54% from the field (35-for-65), 37% on three-pointers (9-for-24), and 77% from the free throw line (17-for-22).

Cassidy Vredevoogd led Dordt with 21 points and 8 rebounds, while Paige Engbers cashed in five three-pointers for 15 points and Robyn Blount chipped in 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Mycah Hulst contributed 7 points, 7 rebounds, 5 blocked shots and a pair of steals.

Dordt will travel to Sioux City next week to take on the Morningside Lady Mustangs, who were ranked #1 in the latest NAIA DII Women's Basketball Poll and boast a 26-0 record. They will tip-off at 6:00 PM on Wednesday.
