The Dordt College men's golf team opened the 2014 portion of its schedule with a third place finish in the seven team field at the Morningside/Briar Cliff Invite at Whispering Creek in Sioux City, Iowa. The event was originally scheduled to be played over two days and 36 holes but was reduced to a single day event because of predicted poor weather conditions.
Derek Fox shot an 81 to lead the Defender effort on the par-72, 6,600 yard set up. Nathan Middel was at an 84 and Trey Hugen carded an 85 while Rees Beaver completed the Dordt scoring. Fox's total was good for 8th place in the 36 man field.
Morningside nipped Northwestern for the top spot 309-301 with Neil Malenke (Northwestern) taking medalist honors with a 70, beating his nearest competitor by three strokes.
Dordt's next action will be Tuesday, April 8 at the Northwestern Invite.
