The Dordt College Defender women's soccer team earned a season opening 3-2 win over Waldorf (Iowa) in Forest City on Saturday, August 30. The Defenders snapped a 29 game winless streak in the process.<p>
Renee Ewald got the Defenders on the board with an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute. The Ewald goal stood until halftime.<p> Leading 1-0, the Defenders added to the lead with a Natalie Sakuma goal in the 63rd minute off an assist by Ewald and Tori Mann got into the act off an assist from Sakuma in the 77th minute.<p>
Waldorf made a game of it with a pair of goals in the 79th and 83rd minutes. Brittany Thornton found the net first for the hosts and Mia Crail followed with the final goal of the contest. Both scores were off assists by Jennifer Geil. <p>Dordt was outshot on goal 15-7 with Deianira Felts recording 13 saves in goal.<p>
Dordt will face Johnson and Wales (Colorado) and Presentation on Friday and Saturday, September 5 and 6 in Denver, Colorado in the Defenders' next action.
