The Dordt College softball team lost a 7-5 decision to the College of Saint Mary Flames in game two of their doubleheader on Wednesday, March 19 in Omaha, Nebraska.<p>Dordt got two runs in the first inning when Ashton Beaird clubbed a homerun that scored Erica White. The Flames came back with four runs on three hits in the bottom of the first on a grand slam by Jessica Gargano.<p>Beaird homered to lead off the fourth inning and Michal Hoogland followed with a homerun. Dordt got one more run on in the inning on an error to take the lead at 5-4. <p>Dordt missed a chance to build on the lead when they left two runners stranded in the sixth inning with the final two outs of the inning coming with two runners on. The Flames made the most of the sixth inning when they scored three runs on four hits, scoring two unearned runs on an error late in the inning that gave them a two run lead. Dordt threatened in the seventh with Bethany Dykstra singling and Erica White doubled with an out. Michal Hoogland walked with two outs to load the bases and a ground out finished the game.<p>Dordt was outhit 12-11 with Sidney Larsen taking the loss in relief. Samantha Dunn went five innings to start and was charged with four runs and one walk with eight hits and struck out three. Larsen was charged with three runs--one of them earned and struck out one.<p>Beaird was 2-4 with three runs batted on with her two homeruns. Sidney Larsen, Samantha Dunn, Michal Hoogland and Erica White all had two hits. <p>Dordt is 3-13 this season and will face Buena Vista on Thursday, March 20 in Storm Lake, Iowa.
