The Dordt College softball team got a shutout pitching performance from Sidney Larsen and rolled to a 6-0 win over the College of Saint Mary Flames in Omaha, Nebraska on Wednesday. Larsen scattered five hits in helping the Defenders to their third win of the season.<p>
Dordt took the lead for good in the first inning when Ashton Beaird doubled in Kassidy Van Voorst. Van Voorst had led off the game with a double. The Flames threatened in the bottom of the first inning but stranded two runners. <p>Dordt added to their lead in the third when Erica White slugged her third homerun of the season, scoring Van Voorst after she had walked to reach base. Van Voorst did more damage in the fifth inning with a homerun.<p>The Defenders finished the scoring in the top of the seventh inning with Erica White and Beaird singling in runs to make the final 6-0. <p>Other than the first inning, the Flames stranded two runners in the fourth and single runners in three other innings.<p>Van Voorst scored four runs and was 2-3 with a double and homerun. White knocked in three runs and had a homerun and single. Beaird had a single and a double and two runs batted in. Dordt outhit the Flames 9-5.<p>Larsen went the distance with one strikeout, no walks and five hits allowed.<p>Leah Kipfer pitched five innings and took the loss with five strikeouts and one base on balls. The Flames had just one extra base hit in the game.
