Dordt College lost an extra inning decision to Presentation on Wednesday afternoon, April 2, by a 5-4 score in nine innings. A pitcher's duel through eight innings, the two teams combined for seven runs in the ninth inning with the Saints prevailing.<p>
The visitors scored a run in the fourth inning when they loaded the bases against John Drenten but the junior hurler managed to record three outs while allowing just one run in the frame.<p>Dordt answered with a run in the fifth inning when Nathan Forseth hit a two-out single to start the rally. Alex Schoonhoven, running for Forseth, stole second base and scored on a Jason Wapnick single to tie the game.<p>Dordt nearly won the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth but Sam De Nooy was thrown out at the plate trying to score fro second base on an error that got away from the Presentation third basemen.<p>Presentation scored four runs on three hits in the ninth inning. Dordt responded with a three run ninth inning with John Holwerda walking with the bases loaded and Jake Thayer knocked in two with a single that was misplayed into an error. Dordt ended up stranding the tying run at third with a grounder to the pitcher and a strikeout ending the contest.<p>Jake Thayer and Jason Wapnick each had two hits and Thayer had two runs batted in. <p>John Drenten pitched six innings and allowed six hits and two runs. Josh Van Kekerix absorbed the loss with two earned runs allowed out of four total and struck out one.
