NAIA National Championship Pool Play
The Dordt College volleyball team fell to 1-1 in pool play at the NAIA National Volleyball Championship in Sioux City, Iowa with a 3-0 loss to no. 3 ranked Biola (California).
Biola started fast and never let the Defenders in be in the match as they jumped out to a 13-1 lead in set one on the way to a 25-9 win to start the match.
Utilizing a lineup that featured three players 6-1 or taller, the Eagles used that size to their advantage on the way to a 25-12 in set two and set three was nearly identical as they rolled to a 25-14 win.
Biola, a Golden State Athletic Conference member, hit for a .520 kill efficiency while handing Dordt its eighth loss. Dordt struggled to a .090 kill efficiency and had 18 attack errors on a night where Biola only had four errors in 75 attempts.
Dordt was topped by Lindsey Floen's six kills and Brooke Wolterstorff added six. Jenna Horstman added five with Kayla Gesink putting up 21 assists. Kayla Broekhuis led the team with 11 digs.
Biola got 11 kills by Amy Weststeyn and 10 by Alyssa Mason. Gracee Gallarada had 33 assists and Tara Rallis had ten digs.
Dordt will face Indiana Wesleyan on Thursday at 5:45 to conclude pool play. Indiana Wesleyan was a 3-2 winner over Lindsey Wilson on Wednesday night. The winner of the Indiana Wesleyan-Dordt match will be the runner-up in Pool C and will advance to the single elimination portion of the NAIA National Championship on Friday while the loser will see its season end.
