The Dordt College Defender volleyball team turned away Grand View (Iowa) in four sets in a match played at the De Witt Gym on Saturday, September 7. The morning match was part of a triangular hosted by Dordt with the Des Moines based school and York (Nebraska).<p>Dordt took the early lead before holding on set one for the 25-21 win. The Vikings came all the way back to tie the set at 20-20 on a service ac. An Elizabeth Kiel kill restored order for the Defenders and an attack error by the visitors followed by a Kayla Gesink kill made it 23-20. One more error put the Defenders up 24-20 and Meghan Krausman ended it moments later with a kill after Grand View regained service.<p>Grand View jumped out quickly in set two and took a 17-9 lead and they were still up 20-13 before the Defenders made it interesting with a run to get to within 21-18 on a Brooke Wolterstorff kill. Grand View took advantage of back to back hitting errors by the Defenders to regain the momentum and the Defenders lost set two 25-20. <p>Dordt won sets three and four by identical 25-23 scores. set three was never tied as the Defenders led start to finish and Dordt won it on a ball handling error after the Vikings had cut the lead to 24-23 with a three point run. Set four was tight with eight ties, the last one at 13-13. A Gesink kill and a Gesink ace serve put the Defenders up by two and they never relinquished the lead or were tied again in winning the set and match on a Jenna Horstman kill.<p>Brooke Wolterstorff and Jenna Horstman each had 11 kills while Lindsey Floen put down ten. Gesink had 42 assists and Kayla Broekhuis 16 digs. <p>Kadie Subbert paced Grand View with 18 kills and Taylor Wells had 17. Chrissy Daggett put up 39 assists and was one of three Grand View players with 11 digs.<p>
