The Dordt College Defender women’s cross country team finished 11th out of 33 teams at the Roy Griak Invite hosted by the University of the Minnesota in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday morning, September 28. The Defenders totaled 256 points in the field that featured 356 runners.

Lauren Opp and Jordyn Visscher were 22nd and 28th overall in times of 23:29 and 23:36 respectively. Kayla Byl and Abby De Vries both finished the 6,000 meter course in a time of 23:58 for 58th and 59th respectively and the Defenders completed their scoring with a time of 24:38 from Renee Buikema for 89th place. Katie Bonnema and Kelsey Lewis provided the Defenders with a time of 24:48 and 24:54. The Defenders total spread was 1:25. Bonnema finished 100th and Lewis 107th. Opp was the second NAIA runner to place in the field.

Augustana (South Dakota) won the Division II title with a team total of 83 points and was led by Runa Falch’s time of 21:34.

Among the NAIA teams in the field the Defenders finished second to Olivet Nazarene’s 226 points.

Dordt’s next action will be the at the Pre-Nationals Meet hosted at Lawrence, Kansas on the same course the national championship meet will be run on in November.
