Men's Varsity Basketball vs. Central

W 98-76

Dordt College/Holiday Inn Express Classic

4:00 PM - Saturday, November 30, 2013
Sioux Center, Iowa
Non-conference Match

The Dordt College Defenders went three for three this week, picking up their third win this afternoon by knocking off Central College 98-76 in the final contest of the Dordt College/Holiday Inn Express Classic. The Defenders improve to 10-1 with the victory while the NCAA Division III Central College Dutch drop to 3-2 on the year.

A three pointer by Central's Kyle Eckermann at 13:57 allowed the visiting Dutch to stay within striking distance of the Defenders with Dordt leading 14-12. An Austin Katje layup at 7:50 put the finishing touches on a 12-3 Defender run that put Dordt up by eleven (26-15). The Defender lead was in the teens for the bulk of the half and a tip-in at the buzzer by Tyler Wolterstorff gave Dordt a 20 point (49-29) at the break.

Dordt Head Coach Ross Douma: "We really came out well in the first half and extended our defensive pressure, we defended the arc well and prevented them from getting many easy looks. Central's Matt Greenfield, who had 28 points in a win over Northwestern Friday night, was held scoreless by the Defenders in the first half. Kyle Lindbergh, who was recognized this evening for joining the 1,000 point club, did a nice job defending Greenfield and it shows Lindbergh can play well on both ends of the floor."

Dordt quickly built their advantage to 27 (62-35) in the second half and never led by less than twenty in grabbing their seventh straight win.

"It's important for us to keep the tempo up as we have a number of bigger guys that can handle the ball well and get up and down the floor and we did that tonight. Nathan Rindels does a lot of things very well that don't get noticed on the scoresheet, he had five points, six rebounds and no turnovers in 25 minutes of playing time. We played well this week and now we have four critical conference games coming up in the next two weeks."

Kyle Lindbergh topped all scorers with 21 points and picked up a double double with a game-high ten rebounds. Lindbergh was even of 15 from the floor, including a dunk off on a baseline out of bounds play, and seven of nine on free-throws. Dalton Franken had 18 points on seven of eleven from the floor, including a flawless three for three from beyond the arc. Tyler Wolterstorff had 15 points on six of twelve from the floor and three of six from the line. David Den Herder rounds out the double digits scorers with 14 points on five of seven from the field and four of five from the stripe.

Sam Markham paced the Dutch with twelve point on three of four from the floor with two of three from three point range and four of four on free-throws. Kevin Kaerwar ended with 11 point and Nile Eckermann added ten. Spencer Bakerink and Matt Greenfield each pulled down five boards.

Dordt College ripped down twenty more rebounds than the Dutch, with the Defenders snaring 49 while Central had 29. The Defenders had 13 turnovers and the Dutch had 12.
