Dordt College never led in falling to no. 10 ranked Davenport by a final score of 91-65 in non-conference basketball at a classic hosted by Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa. <p>The Defenders fell behind 11-1 early and were down 25-5 at the 11:07 mark of the first half. Dordt steadily whittled the lead down and got back to within 40-30 with Austin Katje making a three-point shot with 00:56 left in the half. Davenport responded with a Dominez Burnett three-point shot 20 seconds later and the Panthers were up 43-30 at halftime. <p>
Dordt was never able to mount a run, surrendering the first five points of the second half and the Defenders never got closer than 13 before suffering their first loss of the season by a 91-65 final.
<p>Dordt was held to 18-49 field goal shooting for 36.7 percent. The Defenders converted 22-35 free throws for 62.9 percent success. Davenport was 37-65 from the floor for 56.9 percent and they converted 9-24 three-point shots. Dordt held a 35-33 rebounding edge but committed 17 turnovers to eight for the Panthers.<p>Austin Katje scored 20 points to lead all players and Alex Terpstra came off the bench to score 11. Tyler Wolterstorff had seven points and seven rebounds and Kyle Lindbergh had a game high eight rebounds. <p>Davenport had six players in double figures led by Dominez Burnett with 17 and John McCloud came off the bench to score 14.<p>Dordt is 3-1 and Davenport 3-0. Dordt will face Trinity Christian on Saturday at 2:30 in Orange City while Davenport will play Northwestern at 4:30.
