The Dordt College Defender volleyball team took a 25-20, 25-13, 25-11 match win over Mount Marty on Tuesday night, October 1 in Sioux Center, Iowa.<p>
The Defenders fell behind by an 18-15 margin in set one and then forged a comeback. The Defenders scored three points in a row on back to back attack errors by Mount Marty followed by a ball handling error. A Lindsey Floen kill gave the Defenders a 19-18 lead but the Lancers seemed to weather the storm, getting back to back points for a 20-19 lead.<p>
A Brooke Wolterstorff gave the Defenders a lead they would never relinquish. Floen followed with a kill and an attack error made it 23-20. After a Mount Marty timeout the Defenders scored the next two points, the last on a Siri Nelson ace serve to make it 25-20.<p>
Set two was tight early with Dordt pulling in from 13-8 with a four point run. The Defeners rolled to a 22-12 lead and eventually finished the set with a Brielle Van Zonneveld kill for the final of 25-13. Set three was all Dordt as the Defenders got out to a 10-5 lead and they won 25-11 as Mount Marty was unable to keep pace.<p>
Dordt rebounded from a kill efficiency of .080 in set one for a scorching .444 in set two and a .556 kill efficiency in set three for a total of .343 for the match. The Defenders had 33 kills and got to 32 digs while Mount Marty was limited to 24 kills and committed seven serve errors and had 17 attack errors.<p>
Jenna Horstman had nine kills and Lindsey Floen six in the win while Elizabeth Kiel added five. Kayla Gesink had 23 assists and four kills with two service aces. Kayla Broekhuis had seven digs.<p>
Dordt is now 5-2 in the GPAC and 13-4 overall while Mount Marty falls to 0-5 and 9-11 overall. Dordt will face Buena Vista on Thursday, October 3 in non-conference volleyball at 5:00.
