Dordt College moved to 1-0 in GPAC volleyball with a 3-1 win over Briar Cliff in Sioux City on Saturday night. Dordt won the match 25-15, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21 in a contest where the early momentum was critical.<p>Dordt pulled away from a 9-9 tie in set one to lead 18-11 and rolled to the win with a Briar Cliff hitting error capping the the win for Dordt. Set two featured one lead change with the Chargers taking the lead for good at 5-4 and they went on to win 25-21. Dordt rallied from a 8-4 deficit to tie the set but Briar Cliff rattled off four points in a row and held off the Dordt rally with a 25-21 win. <p>Set three featured seven ties up to 7-7 as the squads swapped points. Dordt finally got a pair of points in a row off Briar Cliff miscues at the net and built an 18-12 advantage. Five different players registered the last five points of the set on kills for Dordt. The Defenders then built a 13-5 lead in set four that was too big for the hosts to overcome as Kayla Gesink finished the match with here sixth kill of the night.<p>Dordt hit for a.220 kill efficiency and was led by Brooke Wolterstorff's 15 kills and she got to nine digs. Jenna Horstman and Meghan Krausman each had 11 kills and Lindsey Floen 10. Gesink put up 44 assists and had 12 digs and Kayla Broekhuis got to 31 digs. Elizabeth Kiel rounded out the balanced Dordt attack with six kills.<p>Briar Cliff's Monica Boeding had a match high 19 kills on a whopping 68 swings at the net.<p>Dordt is 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the league and will face Morningside on Wednesday night. Briar Cliff slips to 9-4 and 0-1.
