Dordt won a 3-0 decision over the College of the Ozarks (Missouri) on Saturday, August 31 at the Bellevue Bruin Labor Day Classic in Bellevue, Nebraska. Dordt was in control most of the way in winning 25-19, 25-20 and 25-20.<p>Dordt pulled away from a 7-7 tie in set one to establish a 15-8 lead. Ozarks did make one charge to cut the gap to 19-17 but a Meghan Krausman kill ended the threat and Brooke Wolterstorff finished the set with a kill.<p>Set two was tied at 16-16 but Dordt ran off three in a row on a service error, a Krausman kill and a Lindsey Floen kill. Dordt scored three of the last four points to finish the set.<p>The Defenders had to fight off the Bobcats in set three as the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference member cut the lead to 20-19. Kayla Gesink and Lindsey Floen teamed up on a block to make it 21-19 and Gesink teamed with Wolterstorff on the next play to go up 22-19 and the Defenders went on to finish it 25-20.<p>Dordt had 51 kills and got 15 from Jenna Horstman and 13 from Wolterstorff. Wolterstorff also had 12 digs. Gesink lofted 43 assists and she had 12 digs and assisted on two blocks. Kayla Broekhuis got to a team high 15 digs as the Defenders had 61 total. Dordt also hit for a robust .351 kill efficiency.<p>"Execution was strong for our Defenders as we hit very efficiently and blocked and defended very well," said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson. "The third set got close and I am pleased with how we pulled away late in that one to close out the match. We continue to develop a strong mentality of competing which makes kinds of results very rewarding."
