Dordt College lost a 27-0 football decision to the no. 22 ranked Dakota Wesleyan Tigers on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa to close the 2013 season.<p>
The Defenders' defense forced Dakota Wesleyan to punt on their first possession and the Defenders took over deep in Wesleyan territory after the punt traveled just 12 yards. Dordt attempted a 47 yard field goal after the drive stalled and the Barry Dykstra attempt was wide right. Wesleyan took the ensuing drive and marched down the field on 12 plays, covering the needed 71 yards and capped the scoring drive with a Jon Bane to Eric Lundberg five yard pass for an eventual 7-0 lead with 5:05 left in the first quarter. <p>Wesleyan's second score came after an eight play, 69 yard drive that was capped by a Bane to Alex Robertson strike from 35 yards out to make it 14-0 with 7:52 left in the half. Dordt's next drive stalled and after a Heath Bonestroo punt was marked out of the bounds at the Wesleyan 48, the Tigers struck for a score on the first play of the drive when Bane found Anthony Muilenburg for a 52 yard strike for a 20-0 lead when the point after failed.<p>Dordt's best chance to score came in the third quarter when Wesleyan's punt attempt from their own 44 went haywire. The snap to Porter, Wesleyan's punter, was over his head and he chased it down at his own eight where Dordt took over. The Defenders were unable to punch the ball in for a score and Wesleyan preserved their shutout. <p>Wesleyan's last score came when Thomas Newman was sacked and a fumble forced at the Defender six. Barnaud took it in on the first play and that ended up the final of 27-0.<p>
Dordt was outgained 344-191. The Defenders had 119 yards on the ground and 72 in the air to 155 and 189 for Wesleyan.<p>Thomas Newman ran for 27 yards on 10 carries and Sam Verhulst had a 25 yard carry on a reverse. Courtney Samuel had 23 yards on 11 carries. Ross Schreur completed 5-14 passes for 46 yards and Darryl Van Grouw had four catches for 52 yards.<p>Wesleyan's Barnaud had 29 carries for 158 yards and a touchdown and Bane completed 12-23 passes for three touchdowns and 189 yards. Anthony Muilenburg had four catches for 74 yards and Alex Robertson had three catches for 63 yards. <p>Seth Vande Voort, Dordt's all-time leading tackler had nine solo and six assisted tackles while Jon Gardner had four solo and three assisted stops. Vanoy Harris had three solo and three assisted stops. Micah Applegate was in on five tackles with a sack and a pair of blocked field goals. Cole McClain had an interception.<p>Wesleyan was led by Cody Bonte's seven solo tackles and Eric Gruis had five solo and two assisted stops.<p>Dordt finishes the season 0-9 in the GPAC and 2-9 overall while Dakota Wesleyan is 7-2 in the GPAC and 8-3 overall.
