The Concordia Bulldogs scored the first three times they had the football in the second half of Saturday’s GPAC football game between Dordt and Concordia in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Bulldogs pulled away from a 14-0 halftime lead to win 32-0 on a breezy and cool afternoon.<p>Dordt squandered a scoring opportunity in the first quarter when they marched to the Concordia ten yard line but fumbled the ball on second down and eight. Concordia recovered and Dordt’s chances to score were limited the rest of the game. <p>The two teams exchanged possessions with Concordia putting together a scoring drive with 1:40 left in the quarter. The visitors marched 59 yards on six plays as Von Thomas ran it in from 15 yards out.<p>Concordia punched a score in late in the half when they went on a 10 play, 63 yard drive that took 2:59 off the clock. Bryce Collins rambled in from two yards out to make it 14-0 after the point after.<p>
Concordia took the opening kickoff of the second half and Derek Blessing brought it to the Dordt 15 yard line and Trey Barnes scored five plays later for a 22-0 lead when the two point conversion was good. Concordia got a 21 yard field goal at the 5:45 mark of the third quarter and then finished the scoring with an 11 play, 81 yard drive that took 4:52 off the clock, culminating the drive with a Thomas to Jeff Balz four yard touchdown pass.<p>
Down 32-0 Dordt had a pass picked off in the end zone, ending a drive that was highlighted by a Thomas Newman to Sam Verhulst 56 yard pass completion. The interception came with 10:34 left in the game. Dordt had one more chance to score when Concordia fumbled a Heath Bonestroo punt but Dordt turned it over on downs at the Concordia 23.<p>
Dordt was outgained 372-195 and the Defenders got 131 yards on the ground and 64 in the air. Thomas Newman ran for 54 yards on 19 carries and Lenard Manuel had 47 yards on 13 carries. Daniel Fennig and Erin Francis had 26 and 23 yards respectively. Newman completed one pass, that being the 56 yarder to Verhulst.<p>Concordia was led by their quarterback Von Thomas. Thomas ran for 74 yards on 11 carries and completed 12-22 passes for 131 yards. Derek Klaus caught three passes for 17 yards and Josh Slechts had two catches for 52 yards.<p>Seth Vande Voort had 16 tackles—eight solo and eight assisted and Cole McClain and Jake Atkinson were in on 13 and 12 respectively. Loken Vande Vegte was in on seven stops.<p>
Dordt is now 1-4 overall and 0-4 in the GPAC. Concordia is 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the league. Dordt plays Trinity Bible (North Dakota) in non-conference play on Saturday, October 12 in its next action.
