The top ranked Morningside Mustangs scored on every possession they had on Saturday, September 21 against the Dordt Defenders in GPAC play in Sioux Center, Iowa in a 79-14 win.<p>
The Mustangs put together two long scoring drives to start the scoring and then took advantage of Dordt turnovers to punch in short yardage drives. The Mustangs scored on drives of 77 and 68 yards to take a 14-0 lead. A pass interception on a shovel pass set up a 19 yard drive that made it 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.<p>
Morningside added a drive of 34 yards early in the second quarter and then scored on a 33 yard drive to make it 35-0. Dordt got on the board with a 13 play, 75 yard drive that took 6:34 off the clock and was capped by a two yard run by Daniel Fennig race to the end zone corner. The score was the first by Dordt against Morningside in six meetings. <p>
Leading 35-7 Morningside went to the air and passed for a 25 yard touchdown with 19 seconds left to make it 42-7 at the break.<p>Morningside scored on drives of 46 and 37 yards before Dordt put together a ten play, 79 yard drive that took 4:56 off the clock. Lenard Manuel bulled his way to paydirt for a one yard touchdown at the 5:51 mark of the third quarter.<p>
Morningside scored on drives of 70, 17, 79 and 33 yards for the final of 79-14.<p>
Morningside outgained the Defenders 571-288 with Dordt gaining 283 yards on the ground to 237 for the visitors. Dordt had 16 first downs and had the football for 35:40.<p>
Erin Francis ran for 90 yards on eight carries and Lenard Manuel had 10 rushes for 33 yards. <p>Morningside’s Ryan Kasdorf was 14-20 passing for 282 yards and four touchdowns. Devin Thomas caught three passes for 114 yards. Kyle Schuck and Joel McCabe each had three catches as well for 57 and 49 yards.<p>Dordt defense was led by Jake Atkinson’s 11 tackles and Cole McClain had eight. Zach Schlueger was in on 12 tackles for the Mustangs.<p>
Dordt is 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the GPAC while Morningside is 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the GPAC. Dordt travels to Vermillion, South Dakota to face Briar Cliff on Saturday, September 28.
