A penalty kick in the third minute of play stood up the rest of the way as Mount Mercy (Iowa) held on to beat Dordt in non-conference men's soccer play Friday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The visitors got the only goal of the game when Josip Druzijanic knocked a roller into the bottom left corner of the Dordt goal on a penalty kick in the third minute of play. The play was the result of a hand ball called against Dordt in the box on a corner kick by the visitors.
Dordt's best chance came late in the first half when a direct kick of its own rang off the post in the 40th minute.
Dordt was outshot 13-6 overall and 7-3 on goal. Dordt's Jon Brinkerhoff made six saves in goal.
Dordt is now 0-1 and will face Davenport (Michigan) on Friday, August 29 and John Brown (Arkansas) on Saturday, August 30 in a pair of contests as part of the Pizza Ranch Classic.
