The Dordt Blades turned in another dominant offensive performance Saturday, ambushing the Kansas Jayhawks with a 55-shot onslaught and capping a series sweep with a 4-2 win.

Surprisingly, the Blades faced a 1-0 deficit in the game, as Kansas freshman Sebastian Bohn converted on a wrap-around attempt less than three minutes in. Dordt played down a goal until freshman Seth Mundorf connected on a one-time shot from close range late in the first period.

The game stood at 1-1 until the latter portions of a chippy second frame. The Blades failed to score on three power-play chances in the period before capitalizing on their fourth try at the 5:07 mark. The go-ahead goal came from a perfect Eric Huitsing feed that found Andrew De Haan alone in the slot. The sophomore buried the puck, and the Blades would not trail again.

Acting captain Brandon Fast tacked on his third goal of the season with a point-blank shot to make it 3-1 with three minutes remaining in the second. The junior Huitsing contributed his third assist of the game with another fine centering pass. Dordt held a 43-9 advantage in shots on goal through the opening two periods.

Huitsing finally got his pay-off in the third period. The Edmonton-native, playing through an injured shoulder, found the net mid-way through the final frame after hitting several posts throughout the game. It was Huitsing’s first goal of the season after he led the Blades with 17 tallies in 2011-12.

Kansas finished with a flurry, scoring on a Vic Greenberg power-play goal at the 9:51 mark of the third, but could not cut the deficit any further. Riley Braun saved 16 of 18 shots in goal as the Blades moved to 2-2 on the season.

Kansas goalie Peter Seward delivered a strong effort, saving 51 shots, but the Jayhawks dropped to 0-10 with the loss. They next face Nebraska on November 2nd.

The Blades’ sweep this weekend was their first since January, 2011 against South Dakota.
