Northwestern used a late match surge to defeat the Dordt College Defenders in volleyball action Thursday night in Sioux Center by a match score of 3-2. Dordt dropped its' first five set decision in nine outings and fell to 11-4 in the GPAC with the loss while Northwestern earned its' 20th win of the season overall, coming from down two sets to one for the win.<p>Dordt came from behind in set to win a dramatic 29-27 decision, overcoming an eight point deficit at 13-5 to tie it at 22-22 on a kill by Danae Geels. Dordt rattled off six points in a row to take a 24-22 led but a pair of Northwestern points tied it at 24 and the two teams were tied at 25, 26 and 27 before Dordt finally won it on a Northwestern service error and a Katelyn Schuller kill.<p>Set two had the Defenders in front at the 20-16 mark only to have Northwestern score three points in a row. The visitors eventually tied it with at 21-21 and won it with four points in a row, the last two on service aces.<p>With the match reduced to a best of three affair over the final three sets, the Defenders used a six point lead at 17-11 to fend off Northwestern for a 25-23 win, getting the final point again on a Schuller kill.<p>Northwestern used a fast start to take control of set four and won it going away 25-16. Forced to re-group, the Defenders scored the first two points of the decisive set, but gave up six in a row before scoring again and never seriously challenged Northwestern in falling 15-7.<p>Dordt hit for a .070 kill efficiency while the visitors hit for .219. Dordt had eight blocks to 17 for the visitors. Dordt outdug Northwestern 75-63 and was led by Kayla Broekhuis's 31. <p>Schuller had 14 kills and Lindsey Floen 13 while Meghan Krausman had nine. Kayla Gesink put up 39 assists and had 13 digs. <p>Northwestern got 17 kills, 26 assists, 12 digs and eight blocks from Kaitlin Floerchinger.<p>Dordt is now in a three-way tie for second in the conference with Midland and Doane with one match to play. Northwestern strengthened its' hold on fifth place in the league with the win.<p>Dordt will take a 22-10 overall record into the match on Saturday at Nebraska Wesleyan while Northwestern is 20-9.<p>GPAC Standings<br>
