Dordt College overcame a 2-1 set deficit to win their 16th match of the season, a 3-2 victory over Morningside in GPAC play on Wednesday night in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Defenders won by scores of 25-22, 22-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-7. The match was the sixth time Dordt has gone to five sets this season, all resulting in wins.<p>Dordt won set one, a contest that featured 12 ties, by a 25-23 margin. Dordt scored the final three points of the set, getting a kill from Meghan Krausman to untie a 22-22 score and then Danae Geels registered a kill to get to set point. Kayla Broekhuis finished the set with an ace to make it a final of 25-22.<p>Morningside bounced back to win set two after it was tied 16-16. The Mustangs scored five of the next seven points to take control 22-18 and won it on an kill by Anastasia Ott for the final 25-22. Morningside continued to build momentum, putting a run of seven out of eight points together to lead 17-15 and held on to win after Krausman had tied it at 23-23. <p>The hosts guilt a 15-12 led midway through set four but found themselves down 23-22. A kill by Loy Sahr tied it and Danae Geels gave the Defenders a lead with a kill. A bad set by the Mustangs allowed Dordt to tie the set at 2-2 with the 25-23 win.<p>Dordt pushed through in set five with an early 6-0 lead and went on to win 15-7 in a set that was easily the most lopsided.<p>Dordt hit .161 in the match including a .438 mark in set five. Danae Geels had 14 kills and Loy Sahr 12. Meghan Krausman added ten kills and Lindsey Floen eight. Kayla Gesink put up 53 assists and Jana Van Zanten had 16 digs and Broekhuis had 13 with two ace serves. Kim Buyert added two aces for the Defenders.<p>Morningside was led by Gabi French with 14 kills and Katie Steffen had 13. Maggie Vondrak pu tdown 12 kils and had 16 digs. Melissa Mounts put up 50 assists.<p>Dordt is 16-4 overall and 6-1 in the league while Morningside falls to 2-5 and 11-9.<p>Dordt travels to Midland in Fremont, Nebraska on Saturday, October 6.
