Dordt College squandered a 2-0 match lead before taking a 3-2 victory over Northwestern on Wednesday night in league play in Orange City, Iowa. The Defenders pulled away late in set five to secure their fifth win in as many tries to stay atop the GPAC race.<p>Dordt won set one 25-19, scoring five of six points to pull away from a 16-16 tie and secured the win on a Meghan Krausman kill.<p>Set two was tight early with Dordt scoring six in a row to turn a 6-5 deficit into a 12-7 lead it would never relinquish. Northwestern did trim the difference to 16-14 but six points in a row gave them a cushion and Katelyn Schuller ended it with a kill to win it 25-16.<p>Set three belonged to Northwestern as they scored five in a row to go up 18-15 and won going away 25-18. Set four was the tightest of the night with Dordt leading early and were still up 21-17. A Krausman kill made it 22-18 but back to back points by Northwestern cut it to 22-20. Dordt scored another point off a Krausman kill for a 23-20 advantage but Northwestern reeled off three in a row to tie it at 23. Jana Van Zanten got a kill from the back row to set up the first of two match points but Dordt couldn't put the match away. Northwestern eventually tied it at 25-25 and a Katelyn Floechinger ace made it 26-25 and Northwestern won the next point for a final of 27-25.<p>In the decisive set five Dordt vaulted to a 4-1 lead only to have Northwestern tie it at 4-4. It was tied at five, six and seven before a Loy Sahr kill and a Kayla Broekhuis ace put Dordt up 9-7. A Northwestern point stopped the run but Dordt ran off five more for a commanding 14-8 lead and Kayla Gesink eventually won it with a kill for a 15-9 win.<p>Dordt hit .245 for the match and was led by Schuller's 14 kills and Danae Geels had 14. Gesink put up 39 assists and had 12 digs. Kayla Broekhuis had a team high 18 digs.<p>Northwestern was led by Floerchinger with 17 kills and she had 13 assists. Alexis Bart had 18 digs.<p>Dordt is now 15-3 overall and 5-0 in the GPAC while Northwestern is 3-2 in the league and 13-5 overall.<p>Dordt will face Doane on Saturday at 5:00.
