Dordt College defeated Mayville State in non-conference volleyball at the De Witt Gym on Friday night, September 14 in Sioux Center, Iowa. Dordt won by set scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-22 for its 12th win of the season.<p>Dordt pulled away from a 3-3 tie in set one to take a 9-5 advantage on a Loy Sahr kill. Mayville State scrapped back to within 15-13 but back to back kills by Sahr made it 17-13. The visitors had another charge in them as they got to within 21-20 but two kills in a row by Danae Geels restored order and the Defenders won 25-21.<p>Set two had Dordt in front from start to finish and they turned in a 25-19 win, scoring five of the last six points, getting the game winner on a Geels attack.<p>Set three featured ties at nine different junctures. Dordt was down at one point 17-14 but four points in a row gave the hosts the lead. Mayville State responded with back to back points but Meghan Krausman had a kill to neutralize the momentum. The score was tied again at 19-19 and 22-22 before Dordt put it away with three straight points for the win.<p>The run to take the lead was big in that sometime in this season we're going to be trailing and we're going to be able to say it's just three points. That experience is huge," said Dordt coach Chad Hanson.<p>
Dordt was led by Danae Geels with 14 kills and Loy Sahr added 10 with six block assists. Lindsey Floen added nine kills. Kayla Gesink had 39 assists, 16 digs and three ace serves. Dordt totaled eight points on ace serves and nine on blocks. <p>"The points on aces and blocks are immediate points," said Hanson. <p>Dordt is now 12-3 and will face Mount Marty on Wednesday, September 19 at the De Witt Gym.<p>Mayville State slips to 11-4 and will play Briar Cliff and the College of Saint Mary on Saturday. The Comets were led by Josette Glatt with 10 kills and Nikki Roholt had seven. Laura Kolness put up 23 assists and Roholt had two service aces.
