Dordt College lost a 3-1 decision to the Bellevue Bruins on Friday afternoon at a classic hosted by the Bruins this weekend.
Dordt trailed set one from start to finish and lost by a score of 25-19. The Defenders bounced back with a 25-20 win in set two, using a 5-1 run to go from down 5-2 to go up 7-6 and they never trailed the rest of the way to even the match at 1-1.
Set three was all Bellevue as the hosts outscored Dordt 19-9 to close the set 25-14. Dordt trailed early in set four and were down 12-6 before fighting back to tie the score at 23-23 on a Jocelyn Bousema ace serve. The Bruins bounced back with the next two points to win it 25-23 and took the match.
Dordt was led in kills by Danae Geels and Loy Sahr with nine each. Jenna Horstman added seven kills while Kayla Gesink had 29 assists with an ace serve. Bousema was a perfect 16-16 on serves with two aces and Jana Van Zanten was 12-12 with an ace serve.
Dordt will play Friends (Kansas) at 5:00 this afternoon.
