The first game matched the Sowers with the Carleton Knights inside the dome at Rochester Regional Stadium. The Sowers inability to shut down the Knight’s offense, combined with very few scoring opportunities for the Sowers offensively led to a 12-5 win for the Knights.
“Carleton seemed to be disorganized as a team, but they made up for it with their individual skills,” said Sowers head coach Paul Hoogendoorn. “We were simply not able to match up to keep their offensive players away from the goal. They were able to shut down our offense and we had very few scoring chances throughout the game.”
Offensive leaders for the Sowers included Mark Opp who scored two goals. Nate Weigel, Tyler Buys, and Alex Soundy each tacked on one goal, respectively.
Alex Geleynse and Jordan Harmelink highlighted the defense with each player picking up five groundballs. Goalie Jordan Yntema made 15 saves.
