The Dordt College defense gave up yards but not points on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center and the Defenders scored a 24-7 win on Parent's Weekend 2012, getting their first win of the 2012 season.<p>Dakota State scored the first points of the day with a 31 yard pass from Brandon Large to Stacey Berg with 6:18 left in the first quarter. The drive started after Dordt turned the ball over on an interception and the score came on the first play from scrimmage of that drive.<p>Dakota State looked poised to make it a two score difference in the second quarter when Camren Pietre picked off a Dakota State pass at the goal line and went 68 yards the other way to set up a Barry Dykstra field goal from 29 yards out when the drive stalled. <p>Dordt scored again minutes later when Jon Gardner sacked large at the 38 yard line, forced a fumble, and scooped it up and raced to the end zone for a 10-7 lead after the Dykstra point after. <p>With the score still 10-7 midway through the third quarter, the Defenders took a shot downfield and David Griess was able to run under a Kyle Henricks pass for a 54 yard touchdown, the only pass Dordt completed all day. <p>Dakota State threatened early in the fourth quarter but this time it was Anthony Hallum taking a pas away at the three yard line, squelching a Trojan scoring attempt. Dordt took the ball all the way to the Dakota State two before turning the ball over on downs but the Trojans missed a field goal from 43 yards out with 3:07 remaining and Trai Pickney went 71 yards on the third play of the drive to make the final 24-7.<p>Dordt was outgained 452-340 but had 286 yards on the ground to 365 yards in the air for Dakota State. Dordt had the football for nearly 38 minutes and ran the football 56 times.<p>Trai Pickney had 88 yards on eight carries and Josh Van Kempen had 14 carries for 48 yards. Daniel Fennig added 45 yards on three carries. Henricks completed one pass for 54 yards and ran for 44 yards.<p>Ray Cleveland had eight solo tackles and three assists with two punt returns for 47 yards. Seth Vande Voort was in on a total of 12 tackles--nine of them assisted and Anthony Hallum had six solo tackles and one assisted stop. <p>Dakota State's Brandon Large completed 27-54 passes for 335 yards and Bobby Tisch caught eight balls for 98 yards.<p>Hallum, Pietre and Josh Nollmeyer all had one interception for the Defenders who are 1-7 going into their next game at Morningside in Sioux City on Saturday, October 27.<p>
