Non-conference Match

A flurry of goals in the first half gave way to a defensive struggle as the Dordt Defender men's soccer team beat Morningside 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon in Sioux Center, wrapping up at least a fourth place finish in the GPAC and a home soccer match next Thursday in the first round of the post-season playoffs.

Dordt won it's sixth conference match of the season when Scott Van Wylen put the game winner past Morningside's Evaristo Hernandez on a penalty kick in the 85th minute for the 3-2 win.

Morningside's Forrest Maxon started the scoring in the 22nd minute off an assist by Mike Marian for a 1-0 lead. Eric Grootenboer answered back shortly after with a header over the Morningside goalkeeper in the 29th minute.

Morningside retaliated with a Chico Hernandez goal in the 31st minute and David Riley tied it in the 43rd minute with a long shot over the keeper.

Dordt outshot Morningside on goal 9-8 with Jon Brinkerhoff making six saves in goal.

Dordt is 10-6-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the GPAC while Morningside slips to 4-4-2 in the conference and 6-10-2 overall.
