Eric Grootenboer figured into both scores as the Dordt College Defender men's soccer team went on the road and beat the Midland Warriors 2-1 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon in Fremont, Nebraska.
Dordt scored in the 11th minute of the game when Grootenboer stole a pass and went in to score one on one with the Midland keeper. The score stood to halftime at 1-0.
Grootenboer assisted on the next goal, a feed to Steven Talsma in the 58th minute that made ti 2-0 in the 58th minute.
Midland made it interesting with a goal in the 70th minute by Luke Cooper. The Defenders were able to withstand the Midland rush the rest of the game with Jon Brinkerhoff making eight saves in goal for the Defenders.
Dordt was outshot 28-10 but made the most of its chances to preserve its fourth win in conference play and eighth overall. Dordt is 8-6 overall and 4-2 in league play with four games remaining. Dordt will travel to Briar Cliff on Tuesday before hosting Doane on Saturday, October 20.
