In an error marred contest, the Dordt college Defender softball team used the long ball to overcome a six defensive errors to win a 9-4 decision from Briar Cliff in game two of the doubleheader in Sioux Center on Wednesday night.<p>Briar Cliff scored a run on two hits in the first inning but Dordt got that run back with a Ashton Beaird solo homerun with two outs in the frame. <p>Briar Cliff got two runs in the second inning with a two run homerun by Brook Lyman for a 3-1 lead.<p>The bottom of the second and top of the third were scoreless with Dordt erupting for five runs in the third inning. Brittany Kooiker scored on an error while Ashton Beaird knocked in another with a single. Megan Huizenga and Ashley Viet both doubled in runs and Kacy Oberfoell came across on a passed ball.<p>Trailing 6-3 Briar Cliff scored a run in the fourth when the Defenders committed three errors. Dordt made up for those errors with Haley Huisman singling and Brittany Kooiker clubbed a homerun. Kooiker gave Dordt their final run of the game on a solo homerun in the sixth for a final of 9-4. <p>Sidney Larsen was the winning pitcher after allowing four runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and no walks in six innings. Kooiker worked the seventh and allowed one hit.<p>Dordt outhit the visitors 11-10 with Kooiker going 2-3 with two homeruns and scoring three runs. Beaird and Viet had two hits each with Beaird homering and singling while Viet had a double and single.<p>Bailey Hendrix takes the loss and gave up the first five runs of the game.<p>Dordt is now 9-5 in the GPAC and 19-17 overall. Briar Cliff slips to 10-14 overall and 3-9 in the GPAC.
