An eight run uprising by the Mayville State Comets in the sixth inning led to an 8-0, six inning win for the visitors to earn a non-conference softball split with the Dordt Defenders in Sioux Center on Tuesday. <p>The two teams were even after six innings with Dordt getting no-hit through three innings and Mayville State had just five hits scattered over the first five frames. The Comets exploded for eight runs on six hits and capitalized on three Dordt errors in the sixth inning to take an insurmountable lead and Dordt left runners on first and third when the game ended by virtue of the eight-run difference rule.<p>Dordt's Sidney Larsen took the pitching loss with three earned runs allowed out of the eight total and she gave up 11 hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Bethany Dykstra had Dordt's lone hit, a single in the fourth inning.<p>Dordt is now 10-14 overall and stand 2-2 in the league. The Defenders will host the College of Saint Mary on Friday afternoon starting at 4:00 and will travel to Hastings to face the Broncos on Saturday afternoon in GPAC play. Mayville State is 6-7 and stand 1-4 in five games against GPAC members.
