A three-hit pitching performance by Kacy Oberfoell helped the Dordt College Defender softball team to a 6-1 win over the College of Saint Mary Flames on Friday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa. <p>Dordt College banged out ten hits in the win, scoring two in the third on three hits with Ashton Beaird knocking in Shantelle Gritters from third with a ground out and Oberfoell scored Kaitlyn Lockhorst with a single. <p>The Flames got one run in the fourth to make it 2-1 but the Defenders buckled down and scored three runs on four hits in the fifth inning for some breathing room. Lockhorst singled in Gritters who started the frame with a single and stole second and Oberfoell doubled in a run later in the inning and Megan Huizenga finished the scoring in the frame with a single. A run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Brittany Kooiker finished the scoring for the Defenders and the 6-1 win.<p>Oberfoell struck out eight and walked none while allowing one unearned run and three hits. Lockhorst had two hits with a run scored and a run batted in. Oberfoell had two hits with two runs batted in and Shantelle Gritters scored two and was 2-2 at the plate.<p>The Flames starting pitcher, Jessika Reyes, was saddled with the loss and surrendered five runs--three of them earned and struck out four with no walks.<p>Dordt improves to 11-14 while the Flames are 6-13 after game one of the doubleheader.
