Dordt College used a ten-hit barrage to turn away the Morningside Mustangs in game two of the doubleheader in Sioux City for a Defender sweep of the three-time defending GPAC Champion Mustangs.<p>
Dordt got on the board in the first when Ashton Beaird walked and Megan Huizenga reached on a passed ball third strike with two outs in the inning. Kacy Oberfoell followed with a double to score both runs. <p>Morningside struck for three in the fourth inning on a three-run homerun by Courtney Vaughn. <p>Trailing 3-2 the Defenders plated four in the fifth inning to take control of the game. Beaird clubbed her fifth homerun of the season after Sidney Larsen singled and Paige Fynaardt doubled. Beaird's homerun scored three and Ashley Van Kooten knocked in Kim Buyert, who was running for Megan Huizenga, with a single. Beaird and Oberfoell were hit by a pitch and walked respectively with the bases loaded to give Dordt two more runs for the final of 8-4.<p>Larsen was the winning pitcher while allowing three runs on four hits with two walks. Emma Remy was the losing pitcher for Morningside after allowing eight runs on ten hits. Dordt outhit Morningside 10-4.<p>Dordt was led at the plate by Fynaardt, Oberfoell and Larsen with two hits each. Beaird knocked in four runs with a homerun and a walk and Oberfoell had three runs batted in.<p>Dordt is now 9-13 overall and 2-2 in the GPAC while Morningside falls to 6-10 overall and 0-2 in the league.<p>Dordt will host Mayville State Tuesday in Sioux Center.
