Two unearned runs by the Midland Warriors in the fourth inning proved to be enough in game one of the doubleheader between Midland and Dordt in Sioux Center on Saturday afternoon, April 21. Midland held on for a 2-0 win on a day when the two teams combined for eight hits.
Dordt allowed the two runs and Vinnie Orsi singled and stole a base to lead off the inning. Derek Kampschneider followed with a bunt that was fielded by Aaron Parks but his throw was offline to Travis Dekkers at first, allowing Orsi to score and Kampschneider went to second. Kampschneider eventually scored on a squeeze play for the 2-0 lead.
Dordt threatened in the fifth but had a runner thrown out at home and another picked off at second which helped end their threat.
Mark Lyzenga kept the Defenders close when he threw a runner out at home in the sixth from rightfield but the hits wouldn't come for Dordt as they fell 2-0.
Lucas Carls took the loss while allowing four hits, walked none and struck out seven. Tyler Brundgardt got the win while allowing four hits and struck out one and walked two.
Eric Anderson had two singles while Lyzenga and Nick Serrato had the other base hits for Dordt College.
