A four run second inning got the Defenders off and running on the way to a 7-3 win, securing a sweep at Briar Cliff in Sioux City on Friday afternoon. The win pushed the Defenders into the hunt for a GPAC playoff berth with six games remaining <p>The four runs in the second with Mark Lyzenga and Dustin Brisel knocking in runs. The other two runs were results of an error and were unearned. Briar Cliff got one in the second but Dordt tacked on two more in the third when Lyzenga again singled in a run and Eric Torgerson had a run scoring double.<p>Briar Cliff scored one more run each in the third and fourth to make it 6-3 but the Defenders got a run for insurance in the fifth when Nate Fraley homered. <p>Dordt reliever Nick Serrato worked a scoreless final three frames, stranding two Briar Cliff runners in each of the final three innings to preserve Dordt's fourth win of the conference season and 13th overall. Serrato got the win in relief of Aaron Parks who allowed two runs on two hits in three innings and struck out one while walking five. <p>Nate Fraley, Dustin Brisel, Mark Lyzenga and Eric Torgerson each had two hits with Lyzenga knocking in two and scoring two runs.<p>Dordt is 13-23 overall and 4-10 in the league while Briar Cliff is now 23-24 overall and 7-7 in the conference. Dordt will host Midland on Saturday, April 21 at 2:00.
