A first inning run by the Dordt College Defenders and a dominating pitching performance by Lucas Carls was enough for the Dordt College Defenders to beat the Concordia Bulldogs 1-0 in Great Plains Athletic Conference action on Saturday, April 14 in the first game of the doubleheader. Carls struck out a career high 14 batters and allowed scattered three hits in preserving the complete game win.<p>Dordt got on the board with Nic Serrato singling with one out and Travis Dekkers followed with a single. The runners advanced on a wild pitch and Dustin Brisel delivered a run scoring single for the games only run.<p>Dordt loaded the bases again in the third and fifth but came away with no runs in the two frames. Concordia put together a threat in the sixth inning when they got two runners on but a strikeout ended the threat. A hit batsmen put a runner on in the seventh for Concordia but a diving catch by Nathan Fraley in centerfield preserved the 1-0 win.<p>Carls won his fifth game of the season and second in the GPAC. Travis Dekkers was 3-3 and Nic Serrato had two hits in the win. Five other Defenders had single base hits as Dordt outhit the visitors 10-3.<p>Concordia's Jordan Stirtz took the loss after working three and a third innings and allowed one run on eight hits.
