Dordt College lost a 5-3 decision to Peru State in game one of their baseball doubleheader on Tuesday, April 3 in Sioux Center. The Defenders lost a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning but couldn't hold the advantage, allowing three runs in the fifth inning.<p>Peru State scored a run in the second on a pair of walks, a passed ball and a wild pitch. The Defenders took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Aaron Parks walked and Dane LePlatt reached on an error. With runners on second and third Alex Bluhm singled to rightfield, plating two runs in the process.<p>The score remained 2-1 until Gio Todaro homered to lead off the fifth inning, ending Dordt starter Jeremy Engbers day with the score tied 2-2. Ryan Baas allowed two runs in relief in the fifth inning. <p>After a scoreless bottom of the fifth and top of the sixth, Dordt's Dane LePlatt homered to narrow the gap to 4-3, but the Bobcats got a run for insurance in the topof the seventh and Dordt was retired in the seventh for a final of 5-3.<p>Engbers went four innings to start the game and allowed two runs on two hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Baas went three innings and allowed three runs on four hits with one strikeout and took the loss. Both teams had six hits with Nick Serrato getting two singles. Travis Dekkers, Dustin Brisel and Alex Bluhm all had a single and Le Platt had his homerun.
