The Dordt College Defender baseball team used a six run third inning and an error in the bottom of the eighth to score the game winning run to take a 9-8 win to salvage a split with Mayville State in non-conference baseball in Sioux Center.<p>Dordt got one run each in the first and second. Dustin Brisel knocked a run in with a single in the first and a Nathan Fraley ground out scored a run in the second. Meanwhile the visitors were scoring three in the second and four in the top of the third for a 7-2 lead. <p>Dordt struck for six runs in the home half of the third with Travis Dekkers reaching twice with a single and a double. Sam De Nooy plated two with a single and Dane LePlatt got a run in with a ground out. Dekkers also had an rbi in the inning which included a wild pitch and two errors.<p>Mayville State tied it with a run in the fifth and the two teams played into the eighth tied 8-8. Dordt won it when Travis Dekkers singled, advanced to second on a balk, moved up to third on a ground out to the right side of the infield and scored when Eric Torgerson's ground out got by the shortstop on an error.<p>Dordt was outhit 13-10 with Travis Dekkers getting three hits with two runs and a run batted in. Brisel and Alex Bluhm had two hits each. Ryan De Wit got the win in relief, working the final five innings with two walks, a strikeout and two bases on balls. <p>Dordt is 9-10 and will travel to Doane and Hastings this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders. Mayville State is 15-9 and will face Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday.
