The Dordt College Defender baseball team took advantage of six errors by the North Central (Minnesota) Rams in game one of their doubleheader in Sioux Center, Iowa on Friday afternoon, March 23 for a 10-3 win.
Dordt got on the board with three runs in the first inning as Dustin Brisel knocked in two with a double and Eric Anderson pushed Brisel across with a single. Dordt got one more in the third with Travis Dekkers and Brisel each getting a single and then a walk to Anderson loaded the bases with one out. A ground out by Eric Torgerson scored Dekkers from third for a 4-0 lead.
The Defenders could have blown the game open in the fourth but they left the bases loaded, keeping the game within reach for the Rams. North Central responded by plating three runs in the fifth inning, starting the rally with two outs.
Dordt answered with two runs on two hits int eh fifth inning with Josh Peterson delivering a pinch hit double and Nathan Fraley had a single that scored a run for 6-3 lead and four in the sixth inning on three hits and three errors gave Dordt the 10-3 win.
Dordt outhit the visitors 13-7 with Travis Dekkers and Dustin Brisel each getting three hits. Brisel had two runs batted in and Dekkers scored three runs. Eric Anderson and Eric Torgerson each got credit for two runs batted in as well.
Lucas Carls went six innings on the mound and allowed three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Jake Slings worked a scoreless seventh inning and struck out one with no hits allowed. Carls is now 3-1 for the 6-8 Defenders.
