Mount Marty Invite
The Dordt College Defender women's cross country team placed third out of 12 teams at the Mount Marty Invite to bring to a close the regular season portion of the schedule in the final tune-up before the GPAC Championships in two weeks.
Dordt totaled 87 points for third place on a day when Morningside ran first with 54 points and Concordia was second with 59. The Defenders edged Northwestern who was fourth with 99 points and no other team had less than 150 points on the 5,000 meter course.
Renee Buikema was Dordt's first runner across with a seventh place time of 18:48 and Michelle Steiger was tenth with an 18:54. Lillie Koerner and Merissa Harkema claimed 18th and 27th respectively with times of 19:19 and 19:33 while Abby De Vries was 30th out of 138 runners in a time of 19:39. Dordt's sixth and seventh runners were Gail Dirksen and Katie Bonnema with times of 20:07 and 20:24. Dirksen was 45th across the line and Bonnema was 52nd.
Places indicated were overall placement, not point placement.
Courtney Schall won the race while competing unattached in a time of 17:37.
Dordt will run at the GPAC Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska on Saturday, November 5.
