Recap

The Dordt College Defender women have their season draw to a close with a 58-55 loss to the Doane College Tigers in GPAC play this afternoon. The Defenders finish with a 10-18 record overall and 5-15 in the conference while the Tigers advance to post season play with a 10-10 GPAC record and 14-11 for the season.

Dordt got down early in the game and trailed 12-4 but fought back to take the lead on a Briana Spronk three-point shot to make it 16-14 with just under eight minutes to go in the half. Dordt led by 28-22 at the half.

Doane took the lead for good at 38-35, letting Dordt get it down to one at 40-39, and they built the lead back to eight with 4:37 left. The Defenders cut into the gap and with eight seconds left had the ball out of bounds and were down three. A Jaimie Kok three pointer was off the mark and after the rebound was batted out of bounds, Dordt inbounded again with three seconds to go and Danelle Boone's three was off as well, ending the game with a 58-55 final for Doane.

"We dug ourselves in to such a big hole with all out turnovers and just made things very difficult for ourselves. Had we only had 17 turnovers (Dordt committed 27) I am confident we would have won this game," stated Dordt Head Coach Craig Stiemsma. "We battled really well on the defensive end in the first half and that last 3 minutes of the first half we got some really good shots but just couldn't get them to go."

Dordt's Bailey Spencer will be the only one player to graduate from the team; "Bailey (Spencer) has been a great leader on this team and we are definitely going to miss all the ways in which she contributes. She is extremely dependable and a very hard worker and never misses a practice or game and contributed in every game all four years."
