An explosion of four touchdowns in the final 5:37 of the first half allowed the Northwestern Red Raiders to slide by the Dordt Defenders 45-28 in Great Plains Athletic Conference football on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa. <p>The two teams traded touchdowns in the first quarter with Dordt scoring on a 71 yard, eight play drive to tie it at 5:01 left in the first quarter. Northwestern scored the first touchdown of the game on a five play, 44 yard drive with Davis Bloemendaal finding Jordan Micalef for an eight yard scoring pass. <p>Northwestern had to settle for a field goal on their next score with Brett Busch splitting the uprights for a 22 yard field goal with 11:34 left in the half. The Defenders struck immediately with Trai Pickney racing 94 yards for a touchdown on the returns and the Defenders had the lead at 11:21 left in the half. That 14-10 led held for nearly six minutes until the Red Raiders broke through with short fields.<p>Northwestern scored on drives of 51, 28, seven and six yards on a combined eight plays for a 38-14 halftime lead.<p>Dordt scored on their first drive of the second half with David Greiss catching a 42 yard pass from Justin Knot on the first play from scrimmage in the second half to cut the gap to 38-21. <p>Northwestern countered at the 1:11 mark on a five play 44 yard drive and Dordt capped the scoring on a Daniel Fennig seven yard run with 13:19 left in the game, capitalizing on a James Rowenhorst interception and return to the Northwestern 24 yard line.
<p>Dordt had two drives end inside the 30 yard line in the second half.
<p>Dordt was outgained 509-327 with Northwestern piling up 302 yards on the ground. The Defenders were led by Daniel Fennig with 20 rushes for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Justin Knot completed 13-30 passes for 191 yards and one touchdown. Trai Pickney had four catches for 45 yards and David Griess was on the receiving end of three passes for 70 yards. Sam Du Mez and Darryl Van Grouw each had two catches for 41 and 29 yards respectively. <p>Brandon Smith had 30 carries for 216 yards and Jesse Selgeby carried six times for 43 yards. Davis Bloemendaal completed 18-25 passes for three touchdowns and 207 yards with Tyler Walker catching seven balls for 80 yards and Eli Groenendyk caught five for 81 yards.<p>Todd Green, playing in his final game as a Defenders, made six solo and four assisted stops and James Rowenhorst had six solo and one assisted tackle. Austin Bosma had four solo tackles and five assisted tackles.<p>Northwestern's Nate Van Ginkel had four solo and three assisted stops and one interception.<p>Northwestern is 9-2 overall and 7-2 in the league. Dordt finishes the year 0-9 in the league and 2-9 overall.
