On a day when two ranked teams fell in GPAC play the Dordt College Defenders played the #12 ranked Midland Warriors relatively close before falling 37-14 in Sioux Center.<p>Midland got on the board with a 23 yard pass from Greg Panelli to Kyle Fries to cap a seven play, 57 yard drive with 7:24 left in the first quarter. Dordt evened the score later in the quarter when they marched 56 yards on five plays and Chandler Kurth found Josh Van Kempen for a 15 yard scoring strike to make it 7-7 with 00:42 left in the first quarter.<p>Midland flexed its muscles with two long scoring plays in the second quarter and looked poised to blow the game open with a 59 yard touchdown run by Antony Johnson with 7:28 left in the half and a 64 yard pass from Panelli to Fries with 4:04 left to make the score 21-7. <p>Dordt made it a game late in the half with a gamble that paid dividends. Facing fourth and ten at the Midland 17 with :08 left in the half, the Defenders went for it after a timeout and Knot found Van Kempen again for a touchdown to cut the gap to 21-14.<p>Midland got two scores in the third quarter, one with 8:38 left on a 12 play, 70 yard drive for a touchdown and a safety came at the 2:14 mark. Dordt had a chance to cut the then 28-14 difference down with a drive all the way to the Midland four that ended with a fumble that the Warriors recovered. Midland got a score for insurance with 10:35 left in the game with Fries catching his third scoring strike of the day for the final of 37-14.<p>Midland had 507 yards of offense with 279 on the ground and 228 in the air. Dordt had 233 yards of offense with 117 on the ground and 116 in passing yardage.<p>Lenard Manuel had 23 carries for 72 yards and Van Kempen had four catches for 42 yards. <p>Midland got 146 yards on the ground from Antony Johnson and Fries had five catches for 131 yards.<p>Dordt is 1-2 overall and 0-2 in GPAC play with a game at home against Concordia next week. Midland is now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the league with a game against Morningside ahead on Saturday.<p>GPAC Scoreboard:<br>
