Defenders Third In GPAC Volleyball Poll

(Wednesday, August 13; Sioux Center, Iowa) The 2014 Great Plains Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll has been released for the 2014 season.

The Dordt College Defenders were picked third in the annual balloting and totaled 83 points.  The Defenders finished the 2013 season with a 25-9 overall record and a 12-4 mark in the GPAC which was good for a tie for third.   The Defenders advanced to the NAIA Volleyball National Championship Final Site hosted in Sioux City, Iowa.  Dordt advanced out of pool play into the elimination round before its season came to an end.

The Defenders will open the 2014 season at the Biola Classic in Los Angeles, California on August 21 and 22 with four matches.  Dordt’s home opener is Saturday, September 13 when it hosts Briar Cliff in a GPAC contest.

Northwestern took the top spot in the poll with 98 points and Midland was second with 91.

The 2014 GPAC volleyball season will consist of 16 conference matches with 11 teams competing for the conference.  Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team in the preseason poll.
